In an account of the recent exhibition, by the special reporter of the Australasian, we take the folio .ving extracts of the positions taken by the New Zealand exhibitors. intercolonial. Challenge Prizes, Open to all Exhibits. Class 237- For the most valuable twelve fleeces, ewes, unskirted —Ist prize. £. ; 2nd, certificate of honor. New Zealand and Australian Land Company. Growth. 300 days; brand. ZZ-23 *. bred by exhibitors; by pure bred imported Leicesters: cold water; six-tooth; padclocked. Recommended for a Ist prize. Now Zealand and Australian Land Company. Growth, 360 days ; brand, ZZ-23 ; by exhibitors ; by pure-bred imported Leicesters ; cold water ; six-tooth ; paddocked. Recommended for a 2nd prize. I The tirst two exhibits were judged as in Class 2:57 A ; the other two as in Class 237 B. The judges appended the following remarks in reference to this alteration :—"We decline to judge cross wools and merino in the same class, and therefore have separated thc exhibits entered here into 237 A merino and 237 B cross. We have done the same in all the other classes where two sorts of wool have been entered, except in Class 251, in which all descriptions of wool compete." Kef err ing to the New Zealand and Australian Company's first exhibits, the judges append the following remarks : —'* This is as good a specimen of Leicester and lustre wool that we have ever seen in the colonies; the same remark applies to thc whole of the exhibits of this brand. This wool, however, cannot be compared with the merino." Class 23.B —For the most valuable 12 fleeces, rams', hoggets, unskirted. Ist prize, -£."> ; 2nd, certificate of honor. New Zealand and Australian Land Company, Dunedin, New Zealand. Growth, 13 months 3 weeks ; brand ZZ-25; from imported Leicester ; cold water; 13 mouths and 3 weeks ; paddocked. New Zealand and Australian Land Company, Dunedin, New Zealand. Growth, 13 months and 3 weeks ,* brand, ZZ-25 ; bred by exhibitor, from imported Leicesters; cold water ; 13 months and 3 weeks ; paddocked. These exhibits were recommended for Ist and 2nd prizes. Class 240b —For the most valuable bale of not less than 2001b net, of not more than 100 fleeces, ewes. Ist prize, £5 ; 2nd, certificate of honor. New Zealand and Australian Land Company, Dunedin, New Zealand. Growth, 362 days ; brand, ZZ-2G ; bred by exhibitor, by imported Leicester ; cold water, six tooth ewes ; paddocked. Recommended for prizes. The weight of the fine wools iv this class is estimated to be at 60 ounces per fleece. Class 246b. —For the most valuable six fleeces, rams' unskirted —Ist prize, £5 ; 2nd, certificate of honor. The New Zealand and Australian Land Company, Dunedin, New Zealand—Growth, 362 days : brand, ZZ-32 ; bred by exhibitor from imported Leicester ; 6-tooth ; paddocked. Recommended for a prize. Champion Prize—Silver Medal. Class 251. —The most valuable twelve fleeces in thc Exhibition. Six entries. New Zealand aud Australian Land Company, New Zealand —Growth, 13 months 3 weeks ; brand, ZZ-37 ; bred by exhibitors from imported Lincoln rams ; cold water ; 13 months 3 weeks ; paddocked. Thc medal.
