The debate in reply to the Governor's address is adjourned till the 7th. The Opposition proposed an amendment tantamount to a vote of want of confidence, because of the omission in the address of any reference to public education. The Ministry will probably be defeated, and will ask #or a dissolution if the amendment is carried.
A boat, believed to be the long-boat belonging to the brig Magnet, has been picked up by the Mary Cumraiugs. of Adelaide.
Feeney's sentence, for shooting Marks, has been confirmed by the Executive.
The Legislature passed congratulatory addresses to her Majesty on the recovery of the Prince of Wales.

Police-sergeant Sutherland was shot dead by two bushrangers, at Cowra. The French transport Jura, with 700 communist convicts, has arrived at New Caledonia. A Bill has been introduced abolishing the Newcastle tonnage dues. The Assembly voted an address of congratulation to the Queen on the recovery of the Prince. Newcastle. The Council have voted an address to the Superintendent, praying for a further endowment of 100,000 acres for the University. An enquiry into the cause of a collision between the Maori and the brigantine Coronet at Oamaru lays the blame on the Maori, and says that the look-out-man on the steamer was very culpable. Blame is attachable to Leys, the mate ; but is not suffiicient to warrant a] suspension of his certificate. Wellington, May 11. Private telegrams state that the mail steamer from San Francisco broke down> one day out, and put back. She was to leave again on the 6th of April. It is understood that the Nebraska is waiting at Honolulu. Dunedin, May 11. Captain Macfarland was presented last night with a massive plate service by the artillery, as a farewell gift.
