Captain-Whitby reports, at 5 p.m. on Sunday, 21st, I.fell .in with a vessel, bottom upwards, eight milee "west of Stephen's Island ; when close to the wreck the boat was put out, and we pulled to the wreck to ascertain what vessel it was; made out her name to be Ocean Bird, Auckland. She had coal tar bottom and white top sides; we picked up a kauri topmast, got out a warp, and tried to make fast bat was not able, her bow being a long way under the water, and her stern awash, ewepther by the masts bnt could do no good; the weather proving unfavorable, had to let her go and proceed on our voyage. Respecting the board picked up with the name Harvest Home on it, there is no doubt that it is part of some lumber that was thrown overboard from the vessel ; a plank similar to that was seen on one of the boat's skids. The vessel during her passage met with some heavy weather, and had to have some repairs. With respect to the vessel we may say that she left the Heads at mid-day, and was seen by the look-out-man at sundown bowling away with a fine wholesale breeze, thirty miles off the laud. There was no. bad weather for several days after she left: The American ship Magnet arrived in harbor yesterday morning, and was anchored oft the town. She left Melbourne on the 18th ultimo; had light easterly winds during the passage. She comes consigned to Messrs Taylor and Co. The brig Edith Haviland arrived in harbor yesterday j she left Port Chalmers on Saturday ;/had strong southerly winds during the passage. She brings a part cargo of sugar.
