LYTTELTON.
Monday, May 6. (Before W. Donald, Esq., R.M.) Assault. —Samuel Pearson, landlord of the Oddfellows' Arms, was charged with assaulting William Cummins, in presence of a police constable. Constable Davidson said the accused was given in charge for assaulting complainant; afterwards in his presence, accused struck the complainant. William Cummins said that the accused on leaving the platform of the Lyttelton station commenced to abuse him, and when on Norwich Quay he hustled him and struck him. Accused did not deny the assault, but said he had received provocation. Aa there was a counter summons, the bench eaid the case would be decided the next day. Larceny.—William George Head, convicted on two previous charges, was again brought up charged with having stolen two chisels, one pair pincers, and some copper wire, the property of Messrs Cameron Bros. After hearing the evidence, the Bench said that the evidence, although very strong, was not conclusive. Addressing the accused his Worship said that he hoped the sentence inflicted on Saturday would prove a warning to him.
