SPECIAL MEETING—THURSDAY,
An adjourned special meeting of the City Council was held yesterday morning. Present-4- His Worship the Mayor, Cre.. Jameson, Hart, . Joues, Biahop, Hobbs, and Calvert. ". The Ma,yor stated that he had been over. the goods that morning in accordance with the resolution of the previous day, and had arranged for the sum of £40 to cover .all the claims on the part of Mr Warner. Cr. Hart moved —" That the action taken by His Worship the Mayor be approved." Cγ. Calvert seconded the motion, which was agreed to unanimously. Mr David Crai£, the Secretary to the Insurance Companies of the city, who was present, said he. was very glad to fiad that the claim had been reduced to such an amount, and he had very great pleasure in handing a cheque for the amount on behalf of the insurance companies, doing business in the city. He might say that he thought the letter written by Mr Warner was uncalled for, as he might have felt sure that any damage done would be promptly settled bythe City Council when the amount was ascertained. : Cr. Jameson said he desired to move a cordial vote of thanks to the insurance companies for the very liberal manner in which they™ had come forward on the" occasionr [Hear, hear.] J Cr. Jones seconded the motion, which l was .carried by acclamation.
