WEEKLY REVIEW OF THE AUSTRALIAN CORN MARKET.

The Australasian of the 20th reports :— In the produce market a decided change for the better has occurred since we wrote last week. Breadstuff's have been very active, and the market continues to maintain an .aspect of considerable firmness. Business opened out for the week with a strong depiand fox flour at £14 to Mi ss. OnThurs-

day close on 450 tons changed hands in parcels of 100 tons and over, at our quotations. The millers then quoted from £14 10s to £14 Iss for trade lots, while a shade over, say up to £15, was required by some. On Friday and Saturday little was done at the higher rates demanded. For a parcel of 200 tons, £14 15s was offered without being responded to : holders demanded £14 10s in parcels, and £15 in small lots.. On Mouday, £14 10s was offered readily for flour in quantity; but no large linc3 were to be had. Yesterday, buyers of parcels offered £14 10s, but sales were checked by the paucity of supplies ; for trade p-arposes a good demand is reported at £15. The market continues very firm, but supplies are bare, and business, in consequence, is somewhat restricted. Wheat, likewise, has advanced considerably, and holders ask extreme rates for any disposed of. At auction on Thursday, about 4000 bushels were quitted, and from €>s to 6s 4d was paid for prime samples, while 05 5d was refused for a superior parcel. Privately, a line of 1000 bushels Portland was taken up at the extreme figure of 6s 2.1, and a line of 5000 bushels was placed on terms withheld. On Friday, 6s 4d was paid for a second-rate sample, and 6s 6d was offered for a parcel of prime quality without being taken. On Saturday a parcel of fair quality was taken up at 6s sd. On Monday and yesterday wheat was steady at 6s (3d for prime samples, though instances have come under our notice where 6s 4d was not refused. The market is barely supplied, prime samples especially being scarce; holders of such qualities are very stiff at 6s 6d, but lower sorts are to be had at all prices, though not in any quantity. In feeding grains also, more activity has been evinced. Oats have been moved off freely. On Thursday about 1000 bags feeding were quitted by auction at 23 9d to 3s ; and a line of 2000 bags, one entire cargo of New Zealand, wae cleared off at a very full price. On Friday, a mixed parcel of 1500 bags, feeding and milling, was placed on terms withheld. On Saturdaya line of 1200 bushels was disposed of at 3s, and on Monday a line of 500 bags good feeding was quitted at a similar figure. The market is steady at 2s 10d to 3s for feeding sorts, and up to 3s 3d for fine qualities. "We have not, however, heard of any further sales. The Rangitoto has brought 1200 bags. Maize goes freely into the hands of the trade Two Hues of 1000 bushels each were disposed of at 3s sd, and a parcel of 360 bags was quitted in one line at 3s s|d. For parcels 3s 6d to 3s 6£d is now demanded, but for trade lots we do not yet quote over 3s 7d. We understand that the Sybil has left the Clarence for this port with 1600 bags. Barley is very scarce indeed, and when a parcel is placed on the market it is eagerly taken up. 400 bags feeding were sold at 3s 7d to 3s Bd. Inferior malting was quitted at 4s lid. and a sample of rather dark brought 5b 4d. Bran has run up to Is Id : one line of 5000 bushels was got rid of at Is, while a parcel of 7500 bushels was sold on Saturday at our quotation. Small lots cannot be obtained under Is Id. Pollard is selling at Is Id to Is 4d. Colonial made oatmeal has been quitted at £21.
