WEEKLY REVIEW OF THE AUSTRALIAN CORN MARKET.

The Australasia a of the 13th says : — In the produce marker throughout the week a good deal of activity has beeu evinced, and a fair amount vi business has been carried through. The demand, however, has been in excess of the supt<:y, and the opportunity of doing :ija;;_ r '- business, eh'-cked i-consequ-.nec:. In bi'..-a<l-fu£C~-. 'lour hits met with a good deal of favor for pro eels, as wed as lor th-- supply of trade ivj/'.iremeiits. in the commencement ot the week town brands were selling at £13. and fur country brands £12 lWs toil):.' ios was obta ; _-.u. The market, however, is now much lirmu.*, and values have sufiiencd considerably. For town brands miiier3 now demand up to £14, but we have not heard of auy sales in parcels over £13 10s to £14. Quotations for country brands have risen io £13 10s. Much auxiety is evinced to force up prices still further, and it would not be at all surprising to find any attempt of this kind meet with success, considering how very barely the market is supplied. On Saturday country brands were eagerly sought for, and parcels of 50 tons were taken up at £13. Wheat, likewise, has met with a brisk demand, and extreme figures have been realised. Parcels have been very difficult to meet with, so very slowly have supplies been coming forward, and almost all the business transacted has, in consequence, gone through the auction mart. On Thursday about 700 to 800 bags were cleared off, and for the best quality as much as os lOjd, the top figure yet paid, was realised for one line of 365 bags Albury wheat. Other wheat of fine quality was quitted at 5s 9d, and for common 5s upwards was got. On Friday and Saturday no public sales were reported, but small parcels were got rid of, and as much as 6s was paid for superior, while for an ordinary sample 5s 9d was demanded. On Monday wheat was very scarce, and extreme figures were obtained : a parcel of 1200 bushels of an ordinary quality was placed at 6s, and much eagerness was evinced to pick up any lots to be bad at the price. For one line of superior the holder was asking 6s 3d ; yesterday quotations were firm at 6s. We understand that even 6s Id was realised for a trade parcel of 1000* bushels disposed of. The market continues very firm at 65.. however little purchasers may be reconciled to the rise in price now established. The advices to hand from Loudon are not very satisfactory to shippers. Messrs Burrows and Perks, under date 22nd February, report a dull month in both wheat and flour, and not the slightest improvement in value. Iv France a decline bad taken place, which, with the probability of its continuance, bad a depressing effect on the London market, "as it had at one time been expected tbat France would have required to import largely during the spring, but these expectations will now probably be unfulfilled. Adelaide wheat and flour remain quiet, without change in value, at C2s to 64s per 4961b for the former, and 42s to 45s per 2SOlb for the latter, both ex granary, the demand being far from active." In feeding grains we have little to report. Oats show few signs of activity. Quotations for common to good feeding sorts range from 2s lOd to 3s, while for good milling descriptions 3s 3d to 3s 4d is obtained. On Monday a parcel of 900 r bushels stout oats was placed at 3s 3d. Maize presents a firm aspect; purchases for trade purposes are made at 3s 5d to 3s 6d. There are no large parcels offering. On Saturday some 10,000 bushels of old changed hands on private terms. Barley is much wanted, but there is none offering of either feeding or malting sorts. Bran has been run up to Is A line of 4000 bushels was quitted at the figure. Pollard is selling at Is to Is 4d. Colonial oatmeal. Victorian, is moved off steadily at £21.
