AKAROA RACES,

Stewards—Mr' Johnson, starter; Mr Beaumont, judge ; Mr Pawson, clerk of the course ; Mr Livingstone, clerk of the scales ; Mr Vanstone. treasurer; Mr Duxbury, secretary.

The races were continued in the evening of December. 26. During the day various sports were gone through,the principal being a halfmile race, which attracted three competitors, •and was won by a Christchurch man, J. G. Brough, who ran very gamely. Time—2 mm. 30 sees.

The first race run after the tide suited, was the hurdle race, for which there were three entries, Ladybird, Comet, and P. B. The last baulked at the first hurdle, and notwithstanding all the efforts of Johnson, never showed in the race. Comet jumped the three hurdles in good style, and won the race, with Lady Bird in close attendance. In the first heat Lady Bird came in first by a length, but not having jumped the first hurdle, was disqualified. This was disputed, however, and in running it over again Comet came in the winner. Mr Shadbolt's Comet (C. Hicks) ... ... 1 Mr Livingstone's Lady Bird (J. Shadbolt) ... ... 2 Mr Duxbury's P. B. (S. Johnson) ... 0 . In the Hack Race Mr Brown's. Miss Blarney was first, and Mr Masefield's Whistling Harry was second.
