The match commenced at ten minutes to twelve. Fowler winning the toss, put Otago in. Macfarlane and Fulton have gone in. Fulton was caught by Savile for 3. Total 7.
1.15 p.m.
Kettle has joined Macfarlane ; the latter is playing exceedingly carefully. At the thirteenth over he drove one of Pierces well back, the bowler catching it splendidly. Two for 22. Macfarlane 13. Souter relieved Lee at 12.30. Score —Kettle, 15 ; Collinson, 12. Both are playing carefully.
2.50 p.m. Adjourned for lunch at 1.45. Downes has replaced Kettle, whose 24 was carefully made. Collinson and Downes scored rapidly; Collinson, not out, for 26 ; Downes, not out, 12. Fowler has replaced Pierce ; Lee is on again. Maples is umpire, having hurt himself ; Souter takes his place. 3.26 p.m. Play was resumed at 2.45, Souter relieving Lee, and Pierce Fowler. Collinson was bowled off his leg. Fulton, J.C., after scoring 3, was well caught by Corfe. Collinson, b Souter, 26 ; Downes, not out, 22 ; Fulton, c Corfe, b Pierce, 3 ; Turton, 1; byes, 2; leg-byes, 2. Total, 94. .
3.58 p.m. Turton, 1b w, b Souter, 3; Downes, b Pierce, 22 ; Macdonnell, not out, 2 ; Beade, caught by Savile, b Souter, 4 ; Downes, was bowled off his body ; Souter is bowling splendidly; seven maidens in succession. Total, 112.
4.30 p.m. Macdonuell, c Savile, b Sonter, 7 ; Church, b Souter, 1 ; Allen, not out, 0; byes, 2 ; wides, 2 ; leg-byes, 2. Total, 118.

Canterbury went in at 4.10. Wood was bowled off his arm, and Lee by the first ball. Wood b Fulton, 14 ; Pearce, not out, 9, Lee b Fulton, 0 ; Savile, not out, 0.
6.37 p.m. Lee b, Fulton, 0 ; Pearce c and b Downes, 17 ; Corfe b Reade, 7 ; Savile, not out, 26 ; Fowler, not out, 2 ; .Stevens, b Macfarlane, 4. Byes 9, leg-byes 2, wides 2 ; total, 84. Lee was bowled out,by the first ball. Corfe was bowled by Macfarlane's first ball. Savile is playing extremely well. The bowlers were changed frequently.
