POSTAL NOTICES.
Mails for Prebbleton, Springston, Irwells. Leeston and Southbridge •. will close daily a , ? 2 30 p. in. in place of thrice weekly. Mails will be made up for Kaiapoi, twice in. place of once, daily. Time of closing iuail3~* 8 a. m. and 2 30 p. m. Mails for Sprevdon, Halswell, Tai Tapis and Lincoln will be made up twice weekly ira place of once weekly. .Mails will close at 8 a. m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The following notice appears in the Govern ment " Gazette " ;■ — .
In consequence of the increasing , diffictiltlfea which attend the transmission through Fi-anco of Overland Mails addressed via Marseilles,, the Postmaster-General of London has determined on sending Mails so , addressed, until further notice, via Brindisi, Brenner* Prussia, and Belgium. The rates of postage to be charged in New Zealand on Correspondence for the United Kingdom viaMarseillesor Brindisi, will fore be as follows :— Letters. s. d. Not exceeding J oi, ... ... ...1 3 Exceeding $oz and not exceeding 1 oz 2 9 Exceeding loz and not exceeding 1$ oz 3 6 And so on, Is 3d for every additional i oz or fraction of J oz. Newspapers under 4 ozs, each... ... 0 & Book and Pattern Parcels.
