SIE,—As the Canterbury Museum will be opened to th» public on tho Ist of October next I take this opportunity of thanking once moro the subscribers to the above fund for their liberal assistance, and consider it my duty at the same time to state in what way the money has been expended. The whole sum subscribed amounted to £486 14 0 Of which I received the whole except ... ... ... 3 3 0 And consequently £483 11 were at my disposal. Of this sum I p:\id to the Provincial Government towards the original contract of the building 351 19 0 For additional external stonework, and other permanent improvements ... ... 117 3 3 For printing and poetage of circulars ... .., ... 677 Paid to fittings account ... 8 12 £483 11 0 I have to offer also my best .thanks to the editor of the " Press" for printing gratuitously all my advertisements concerning this fund. May I finally express my most sincere wish that the Canterbury Museum will also receive in future the favorable consideration of the public, and that it may form the nucleus around whioh other public scientific institutions will spring up for the promotion of the intellectual and material advancement of the province.
