RESIDENT MAGISTRATES' COURT.
Chbisjchubck —September 26. [Before C. C. Bowen, Esq, R M] Dbunk and Incapable—John Fish was fined 20s. Violent Assault—Alfred Porter was charged with assaulting his wife Sarah Ann Porter. Constable Maguire stated that on Saturday night about half-past teu he was sent to the house occupied by Mrs Porter. He found Mrs Porter sitting in an arm chair. Her husband and another person were trying to bring her to. Subsequently Mrs Porter told him that her husband came to the house between eight and nine o'clock, and was very abusive to her. As he was going out of the house he drew a knife from a sheath and struck at her. She Btooped her head and the knife went into the wall. The accused was very excited, aud was flourishing about the knife produced, which he said he had bought that day, and meant to do something with it. Witness took him into custody. Sarah Ann Porter, the wife of the accused, deposed that her husband came to her house on Saturday evening aud said he had come there to commit murder. He made a stab at prisoner with tbe sheath knife produced. She stooped her head and the knife went into the wall a little above her head. Ada Terry, who lives with Mrs Porter, was also called and
corroborated tho evidence given by complainant. The accused denied that he had made an attack upon his wife. His Worship said the matter was a very serious one, and he would remand the accused till the following day to enable him to consider what order he would make.
