Hokitika, Sept. 24. A prisoner, John Vincent, a colored man, sentenced to twenty-one years' imprisonment with hard labor, in May, 1867, for an attempted murder, escaped from custody yesterday. He was with the hard labor gang, and suddenly disappeared in the bush. The police are in pursuit. He not yet been recaptured. Port Chalmers, Sept. 25. It is blowing a N.E. gale. Several boats are injured. The ships in the harbor are all riding safe. The coffer dam of the graving dock stands the test well. . Wellington, Sept. 25. Sailed—24th, Wanganui for Wanganui. Arrived —24th, midnight, Eangatira from Wanganui; 25th, 12.15 p.m., Airedale from Lyttelton.
