LATEST TELEGRAMS.

Wellington, July 24, 5 p.m. Little of importance transpired in the House on Friday evening. The Otago and Southland Union Bill passed the second reading.

Messrs Wood, Macandrew, Bunny, Williamson, Potts, Haughton, Jollie, Main, and Eo_ spoke supporting the Bill; Messrs Mervyn and Hall spoke against the Bill. The second reading was carried on the voices.

Mr Brown, in a lengthened speech, moved the second reading of the Otago Hundred Regulation Act Kepeal Bill. Mr Mervyn supported the Bill ; and Mr Reynolds moved that the Bill be read a second time that day six months.

Mr Birch supported the Bill. Mr Howorth moved that the debates be adjourned, which Mr Wood seconded. Messrs Haughton and Armstrong were in its favor ; Messrs Rich and Mervyn opposed the adjournment. On the question being put, a division was called for, and the motion for adjournment was negatived: —Ayes, 17 ; Noes, 27. Mr Howorth then proceeded to speak at great length • and the House was ultimately counted out at 12.45. The Governor delivered a lecture in the Maori House last evening.
