ROLLESTON RACES.

The stewards again took advantage of a public holiday, to obtain a good attendance at their pleasant little annual race meeting. Their arrangement* were excellent, and everything wae carried out in a business like etyle. The Chrietchurch division mustered in some force, but the metallic gentlemen must hare had a bad time of it, aa scarcely a bet over half-a-crown could be got on. The class of horses a* might bo expected were onlysecond-elaas platers, but the sport was quite up to the average of country meetings, and everyone appeared determined to enjoy the day's outing. Not the least noticeable feature in the events of the day was the evident interest taken by almost all present in the coming election. Some of the party cries were really amueing, bat throughout the day the utmost good humour prevailed, and nothing even approaching a row took place. Tha Farmers' Plate brought three out of the four colored on the card to the post, and waa won rather easily by Mr Viekery'e Bob. A protest wm lodged against the winner, on the ground of his owner being a non • resident in the district. The Maiden Plate was looked upon as a moral for Mousetrap, a slight grey colt, rather calf-kneed, who
