RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Chmstchubch—March 18. PBefore E. Weetenra and A. Duncan, Esqe., J.P'e.] Dbunk and Incapable—Josiah Long and John King were fined 10s and 53 respectively. Eiotous Conduct nr a Licensed House —William McFarlane and William Foster were charged with committing a breach of the peace in the Criterion Hotel. After hearing the evidence the Bench fined McFarlane,
who was the oggressor, ss, and dismissed the I case against Foster, as he had been looked up | all nighty Bajngioba—March 17. I Before G. L. Hellish, Esq., R.M., and John Thoe. Brown, J.r.] A&SA.wr— M. Peach, of Ashley Downs, was on the information of Alexander Lamb, charged with violent assault at Ashley Bank on the 15th inst. After hearing the evidence of Mr King, landlord of the Aehley hotel, the Bench fined Peach 5s and costs. Committing a Beeach of the Peace.— William Graham and N. Boys were charged by Sergeant O'Grady with committing a breach of the peace by fighting on the public thoroughfare at Rangiora on the 15th inst. Both defendants appeared in Court with black eyes and faces, showing mark* of very severe punishment. After hearing the evidence of Messrs Thompson, Hawthorn and Milne, the Bench dismissed the case against Boys, and ' commented strongly on Graham's conduct,, who was charged and fined a short time ago for a similar offence, informing him that if brought before the Court again he would not get the option of paying a fine. Fined £5 and costs. . Threatening Language — William Graham and George Graham, two brothers, were then charged by W. Boys with using threatening language calculated to provoke a breach of the peace. It appeared that the Grahams were not satisfied with the row in the afternoon,as they again returned to Boys' place at 9 p m on the same evening, and wanted him to come out to fight, using at the same time threatening language towards him. The Resident Magistrate commented on the conduct of these men, and fined William for the second offence £5 and costs, making in all about £11; and George Graham 40s and costs. Slafghtee-Housb Licenses—Slaughterhouse licenses were granted to William Breach, J. Basingthwaite, and Thomas Dench, all of Rangiora.
