Ti-TAEir.—The recent failures in this province, and the numerous rumours afloat respecting three or four well knowD firms in Christchurch, have produced an unsettled feeling. In this district, fortunately, we know the worst, and after the lapse of a short time, we believe that confidence will be greatly restored. Grain quotations are merely nominal until the new grain comes forward. Prices generally remain unchanged. We learn that green flax is fetching good prices, 5s per ton having been paid for the right of cutting. A meeting of the creditors of Mr P. J. Wilson, builder, was held at the offices of Messrs White and Cash, on Saturday last', Mr Cliff in the chair. A balance-sheet was laid before the meeting showing liabilities to tbe amount of £2022, and assets valued at £2138 4s Id. A proposal was made and seconded that the estate should be assigned for the benefit of the creditors, witb Messrs Cliff and Wade as trustees The motion was carried, but Mr Perry, on behalf of the Union Bank, the largest creditors, dissented, and the meeting broke up. Yesterday afternoon a meeting of the creditors of Mr G. Gee, confectioner, was held, with Mr Hutton in the chair. The cause of stoppage is through insufficient business. The unsecured liabilities were put down at about £165, and available assets estimated at about £75.—" Herald," January 12. We quote—superfine (in Racks 196 lb), 4 dol 12£ cents to 4 dol 37. cents ; extra (in sacks), 5 dol 25 cents to 5 dol 50 cenfti Wheat—Boo sacks coast, 1 dol 15 cents ; 600 sacks fair milling, 1 dol 35 cents. Market weak at 1 dol 55 cents per 100 lb as an extreme figure for choice. At the close, 118 sacks common, 1 dol 25 cents ; 371 sacks common, 1 dol 75 cents; 700 sacks (fair shipping), 1 dol 4#feents per 100 lb. Barley-—We heard of no sales this morning up to noon. Quotable at 95 cents to 1 dol 10 cents. At the close, 1600 sacks choice, 1 dol 10 cents per 100 lb. Oats—We have no sales to report. Quotable at 1 dol 10 cents to 1 dol 40 cents per 100 lb.
