THE PROVINCIAL GOVERMENT will receive applications for free passages for single women—domestic servants —between the ages of fifteen and thirty-five; and for assisted passages for families and single men. Provincial Secretary's Ofiice, Christchurch, Sept. 27,1869. 9-28 THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT is PREPARED to RECEIVE PROPOSALS for the CONSTRUCTION of a TRAMWAY or LIGHT RAILWAY from the Rolleston Station on the Southern Railway to Southbridge in the Ellesmere district, a distance of about 194 miles. The line to be taken along the main road or tramway reserve, or otherwise, if found advisable. The Government will contribute £7500 towards the coßt of the work, to be paid in instalments, and the Provincial Council will authorise a lease of the tolls for a period of years. Further information can be obtained at the ofiice of the Secretary for Public Works. Proposals to he forwarded on or before Wednesday, the 15th of December next. WM. ROLLESTON, Superintendent. THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT is P-EPIBID in TtT_ai_rir&--PRO-POSALS for the CONSTRUCTION of a RAILWAY to the north, from the western side of Christchurch, in accordance with the resolutions of the Provincial Council of last session. The Government has in hand a sum of £50,000, which is available towards the purchase of land, and the construction of the work. Particulars will Bhortly be prepared as to the cost of the purchase of land on alternative lines. AN application having been made by the LOCAL COMMITTEE of the PREBBLETON SCHOOL, requesting that such school be brought under the control and management of a committee to be appointed by the owners and occupiers of land and leaseholders resident in the said district :— Notice is hereby given that a PUBLIC MEETING of Buoh owners and occupiers of land and leaseholders, resident in the Prebbleton Educational District, will be held at the Prebbleton Inn, on MONDAY, the 29th November, at 7 p.m., for the purpose of determining whether such owners and occupiers of land and leaseholders are willing that the said district should be brought under the control of a committee appointed by themselves ; also, for ascertaining whether they are willing to provide the proportion of the annual expenses of an educational district, to be paid by such district, as provided by the Education Ordinance, 1864.
