GENTLEMEN,— I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your requisition to mc to become a candidate for a seat in the Christchurch City Council at the forthcoming election. I am much gratified to find that I enjoy the confidence of so many gentlemen whose influential position alone is sufficient to induce any one to believe in his ultimate success. 1 shall, therefore, have great pleasure in accepting your offer of support, and will cheerfully consent to your request. I cannot undertake to canvass the city, but I trust that my long residence among yon, my sincere desire to promote every useful work within the city, without regard to locality, my anxiety to study economy in every branoh of our local affairs, will be accepted by you aB a sufficient pledge that I will, to the best of my ability, endeavor to secure the approval and esteem of my fellow citizens. IN pursuance of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled " The Regulation of Elections Act, 1858," and of another Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, intituled " The Provincial Elections Act, 1858," I, William Donald, Returning Officer for the Provincial Electoral District of Town of Lyttelton do hereby give notice that by virtue of a writ bearing date the twenty-seventh day of August, 1869, issued under tbe band of His Honor the Superintendent of Canterbury an ELECTION will be held for the return of one qualified person to serve as a MEMBER of the Provincial Council of Canterbury for the said Electoral district, and that the nomination of candidates will take place at the Resident Magistrates office, Lyttelton, at the hour of noon, on Monday, the thirteenth day of September, 1869 j and that the poll (if necessary) will be taken on Wednesday, the fifteenth day of September, 1869.
