THE AVON.

TO THE EDITOB OF THE FBESS. Sib,—There is another reason why the River Avon should be cleared of weeds, which I have not seen mentioned by any of your correspondents, namely, that if the Waimakariri should overflow into the Avon again, and I see by this morning's paper that tho first fresh this spring in the south branch of the Waimakariri occurred on Friday and Saturday last, the quantity of weeds at present in the River Avon would make a material difference in the height of the flood, and perhaps cause it to overflow Christchurch, whereas if the weeds were thoroughly cleared out the water would hard a free and uninterrupted course to the sea. Yours, &c., N; A. 0. Aug. 81, 1869.
