RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Lyttelton—August, 29. [Before His Worship the Mayor.] Drunk and Disobperly—Edward Roberts and Samuel Hollier were brought up charged with the above offence. The former was also charged with using abusive and obscene language in a public thoroughfare, and dismissed with a caution. Lbitbfield.— August 26. TBeforo J. Crosby and W. Fondali, Esq. J.P.'s] Unbegistebed Dogs.—S. Haughton was fined £1 and coats for this offence. A similar case against J. Eliwood, adjourned from last week, was dismissed on his proving that his dog was under the prescribed age. Removing Soil.—John Ashley was charged with removing soil from a public road. Sergeant Beatty stated, on the 19th, he saw defendant cutting sods from the road, and repairing a fence in the Mount Grey district. He asked him for his authority, which he said was a verbal one. Defendant produced in court a written authority from Mr Bull, the surveyor, dated the 26th, The bench advised accused in future to have his"authority in the first instance, and to be more oareful in future.
