GAME FOWLS.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PBESS. Sib,—* Having read several letters in your columns relative to the merits of duckwinge at the late exhibition of the Poultry Association, with your permission I will offer a few remarks.
Taking the standard of excellence published under the authority of the Birmingham Poultry Club as a guide, I find that a pure bred dnckwing game cock should have " the hackle a clear white, without any mixture of black or any other, colour." Sow.l would ask any person who was at the exhibition whether the male bird in Mr Fereday's "highly commended" pen answered the above description, I say it would not, because there were biack'etripe? in its hacklesyreacbing half way from the saddle to the head ; on the other hand, the male bird exhibited by Mr Walker was entirely free from blaok or any other
colour. I noticed in one letter a remark that the bird exhibited by Mr Walker was deficient in breadth in the chest, but from what I saw of it at the show I considered that in comparison with the size its breast was broader than that of Mr Fereday's bad.
I will allow that there were a few white feathers in the breast of the prize bird; but with that exception it was nearly perfect; and taking into consideration the general shape and appearance of the birds —upon which point I refer those interested to the above-mentioned etandard, I think there can be no doubt but that the judges were right in their award. I have: omitted to mention the second pen shown by Mr Fereday because the general opinion with regard to ifc; was, that it liad better have been left (at home. Your obedient servant, ; DUCKWING.
