RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Lyxtsl^qn—August 21 [Before W*. Donald, Esq., R.M.] LABCENT.-*Jobn Marl in was brought up charged with the above offence. David Rameay, deposed—T, am Sergeant of Police at Akaroa. I know prisoner. From information received I followed him from Akaroa to Christchurch on Wednesday and Thursday last. The information received was that he had broken into a hut near Lyttelton and stolen some property. I arrested him in Christchurch. He said he had purchased it on tbe road. I found the property in Eagle's boarding hpuso, and prisoner said ib was his (article produced) Adam Chalmers, deposed—l wae in Charteris Bay about three weeks ago engaged at some works there. I lived in a hut. I had occasion to leave the place, but returned on the 11th instant and found a calico window had been torn. I missed some property; the total value of them is under £3. The articles produced were mine, I never gave prisoner authority to take them. I never saw him before. After hearing the evidence of several more witnesses, his Worship remanded the prisoner for three daye.
