Sib,—-Would you kindly allow mc space for a few lines in answer to a letter signed " Cattle Driver," which letter, I am eorry to cay, is very far from the truth with the exception of the signature, which is very appropriate, as no doubt Mr X-—-d R——p can testify. In the first place, instead of being a working man, he is a freehold farmer, and work is the exception and not the rule. Aβ to the notice he received, it distinctly stated when and where the rate had to be paid (as the Ordinance provides), and moreover the committee posted notices giving three weeks longer period, which notice I am sure the ** Cattle Driver " passed more than once; and as I know the eaid C. D. to be of rather an inquisitive turn, I feel sure he neither forgot to read or comment upon the said notice : so much for his great surprise in receiving the necessary consequence of hie own neglect. Aβ to the sickness which he supposed the committee to have so well known, I cannot see that they could be called upon to remit a rate on every occurrence of natural increase to population; if so, lam afraid it would be a poor ohance of the said increase getting educated in the above district. I am sorry to notice euch a letter appearing as that referred to, and certainly think it would have been better for the person aggrieved to have represented his circumstances to the School Committee, at whose hands he might have received every consideration—if his case merited euch consideration. , ; ~, Jam, Ac., j A Ei.TBPAOa WHO HATES JI&MBUG.
