Fibe Police—A epecial meeting of the members of the Christchuroh, Volunteer Fire Police was held last evening at the Engine Station Hall at 6 pm, Mr A. H. Graham occupy ing the chair. Mr Mitchell stated the object of the meeting, which was the consideration of some correspondence coutaining the resignation of Messrs L. G-. Cole and H. Thomson as officers of the force. Mr Thomson stated the reason of his having adopted the course he had done, which was the appointment of a person . who had been nominated Chief Fire Inspector j and who was, ex qfflcid, in authority over the Fire Police, of which he (Mr Thomson) was an officer. It was decided that the resignations of Messrs Cole and Thomson should be accepted. Mr H. E. Alport also handed in his resignation, as did Mr W. R. Mitohell. The latter gentleman stated that there was no personal antagonism against Mr Harris. The resignation of Mr Cole and himself arose from their being convinced that the two bodies, the Fire Brigade and the Fire Police, should ( be entirely distinct. Himself and Mr Cole were willing to act as constables during the present enrolment. The resignations of Messrs Alport and Mitohell were also ao-' cepted. Mr Ruddenklau thought that the | objection of those gentlemen who had re* signed ltd serre under Mr Harris was a elur upon the City Council, who had done their best to elect the most efficient officer possible. After some further discussion, it was proposed I by Mr St. Q.uentin that a public meeting should be called for Friday next at the fireengine station at seven p.m. for the purpose of electing officers in the place of those resigned. The motion waa seconded and put. 1 Mr Bullock proposed as an amendment that the meeting should at once proceed to the election. The amendment'was seconded by Mr Kiver, put and lost, the original was put and carried. The meeting then broke up. (
