AQUATICS.
The Canterbury Rowing Club finished thoir season on Saturday last, with the last of their scratch matches. It had been intended thai; the races should have been pair oared, but a number of the members present seemed to prefer that sculling matches should be tlio order of the day, co arrangements wero made to that effect. We should mention that on this occasion the course was from Stanmoro bridge to Ward's willows ; a distance of a quarter of a mile. Mr JR. P. Crosbio acted aa judge. The first heat was as follows :— 1. Cygnet—E. J. Dudley. 2. Swan—W. H. Churton. It was a very good race to within 100 yards of the winning poet, when Swan went out of bar own water, and bore down on the Cygnet. She came in first, but was disqualified in conoequence of this foul. Time, 3 mm. 15 eecs. Second heat : — 1. Swan—C. A. Nalder. 2. Cygnet—H. Thompson. This wae an easy victory for Swan. %itaQ t 6 mm. 50 sees. „ A The third and final heat was tben pulled between the winners of the two former events, Tiz., Messrs E J Dudley (in the Swan), «sd 0 A tfalder (in the Cygnet). The Cjguj ran into the bank shortly after the the Swan won as she liked. Time, 2 mm. 4& sees. . - , ~i, ft,n Mr Churton being dissatisfied with tae result of tho firel heat, then challenged Mr Dudley to pull hiai ag.iin, tho cup to Dβ im stake.
