Commercial.

Pbtjss Oflice, May 1,1869. It is wholly impossible to refer to any actual transactions during the week sufficiently "'large to affect prices, as. immediately after the 'departure of H. B. H. the Duke of Edinburgh, a heavy rain set in, which has continued without intermission ever since, so that —literally nothing has been doing. Wheat has scarcely been affected yet by Australian advices, partly in consequence of the small parcels coming, and partly because the New Zealand market of itself is almost a sufficient outlet for the whole of our surplus. A few small;transactions have been closed: at 3s 9d to.Ss-lOd to be delivered, but purchasers are becoming very chary. Flom* remains firm at #12 fqr trade, parcels, and we have heard £11 ;-; refused for a line of 60 tons. Oats are holding at 2s 4d to 2s 6d, with a firm market. Barley .has-been dealt in freely at 4s 6d to 45.9 d, but the bad weather has delayed deliveries. , Flax is becoming an important item in our exports, as every wool Bhip this season has taken several tons to the home market. The whole of the reports on the samples forwarded to England are very encouraging, but at present we have no definite test of its actual ;.yalue, as hone has yet been offered in England in bulk. The Celoeno and Matoaka are still in 'harbor, as the holidays and inclement weather have delayed them for upwards of a week. Sugars continue Very firm, but the market is nearly bare, bo that quotations fluctuate considerably. -— • The demand for spirits is improving, and : vnlues also have Candles are in ■i -moderate request, at full rates. Kerosene has advanced, in consequence of Australian advices, and assorted brands are placed at 3s 3d to 3s 6d. Cornsacks are almost out of first hands, but although a good enquiry exists, '...., prices are not quite so high.. ... —————^——
