That capitalists be invited to undertake the construction of a cheap railway from Ohristchurch to the South Bank of the Kowai, and to furnish the neoeseary rolling stock, buildings, &c." "2. THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT of Canterbury invite TENDERS for the ERECTION of a BRIDGE over the Rakaia River in accordance with plans and specification to be seen the office of the Provincial Engineer, on and after TUESDAY next, the 27th inst. The bridge to be built of 96 spans of 40 feet each, with approaches of about 779 feet in length. Persons tendering to state the time within which they will undertake to complete the work, and the term of years for which they would require to receive tolls at the rates prescribed in the Rakaia Bridge Ordinance, 1868. The Government is prepared to receive and consider plans differing from, or modifications of those for the carrying out of which it calls for tenders. Plans and specifications to be forwarded with the tender. The Government engage to return unaccepted plans and specifications, if required to do so. Sealed tenders, endorsed " Rakaia Bridge," to be sent in to this office not later than noon on the Ist July next. The lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted. EDWD.
