Chbistohubch—March 1. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) DBUNKBNNESS. Anthony Mclntyre was charged with having, been drunk and disorderly on the evening of the 27th. Prisoner admitted the.offence, but it being his first appearance before the Court, he was dismissed with a caution.] W. H. Goddard and Neil Wyllie were charged with having been drunk and riotous in a licensed house. Prisoners admitted the offence, and his Worship fined them 5s each. There was also another charge against the prisoners for having broken several panes of glass, which was dismissed, both prisoners to pay the damage. IABCENY. Henry Hogan was brought ud in custody, charged with tlie above offence. Harry Feast, sworn-—About six o'clock yesterday morning I found prisoner lying in a shed up the Coal Track belonging to Mr Parish. I told him I wanted to search his j swag. I searched his swag. Prisouer asked mc what I was looking for, and I told him a nugget. There were several more men in j the shed, and prisoner said if we would all go out he would look and see if he could find it. I went out and looked in at the end of the shed. I saw the prisoner go into the far corner behind a horse. He came out in about a minute or so with the nugget produced in his baud. The prosecutor identified the nugget to be his property. Prisoner said he had picked it up. I arrested him. Conrad Hucke sworn — I reside near Parish's. On the 20th February last I was away from home, and on the Tuesday following I missed a quartz specimen which I had folded up in a piece of paper in a match-box. The box wus in my a sag. I gave information to the police about the loss of the nugget on Saturday. Tho prisoner came to my hut and remained there all day on Sunday. 1 did not authorise any person to touch my swag. "*T identify the specimen produced to be my property. I have had it in my possession for the last two years. Cross-examined by Prisoner—l last saw the nugget on the Saturday night before you came in; the paper was in the box. I shifted my bed next morning. Edward Murphy Powers sworn—l have begn working with the prisoner at a threshing machine. Last Tuesday he offered mc a gold specimen for sale. He said he bought it on the Thames for £1. The specimen produceis the same one offered to mc by the prisoner.

In defence, prisoner made a, statement to. the effect that he found tho nugget near the prosecutor's bed and did not steal it. His Worship remarked that from the evidence produced he had no doubt but that the nugget was stolen by the prisoner, and sentenced bin to three months' imprisonment with hard labor. LARCENY BY A BAILEE. Kenneth Cameron was brought up in custody on the above charge, and was committed for trial at the next seision of the Supreme Court. -
