Bo wen, Esq., R.M.] Henry Thornns Lawrenco, a lad about ci*. teen years of ago, was brought up iv custody charged with assaulting Mary Forman,achild of ten years of ago, with intent to do eriovcin bodily harm. Mr Slater appeared for tlio prisoner, who was committed for trial at the noxt session of the Supreme Court. Bowen, Esq., R.M., andT.\T, Maudo, Esq, J.P.] DEUNKENNESS. James Clifford was brought up in ousto% oharged with having been drunk and disorderly in Tuam street, and wilfully breaking a pane of glass in the shop of Mr Hogg. This being prisoner's first appearance before the Court, he was discharged, on condition that he paid the amount of damage aad costs. ; A case of drunkenness against Philip Bert« rand was dismissed, it being his first offenco, Edward Recce was charged with Laving been drunk and disorderly on the 2nd instant in High street, Christchurch. Constable Eenneday proved seeing the de« fendaut near the White Hart. He made v,m of some insulting expressions. Prisoner was drunk at the time. After being cautioned s he persisted in using bad language, and had to be arrested. Constable JeiFery corroborated last witness's evidence. Mr Cottrell, wlio appeared for the defence, called several wi» nesses to prove that the defendant was r,ot drunk when arrested. The Resident Magistrate remarked that he was sorry to say there was no doubt the defendant was drunk end had misbehaved himself instead of setting aa example to others to maintain order. Defoa" dant was fined 20s. : Allan McGregor was brought up in custody charged with larceny from a dwelling. Oa the application of Inspector Pendor, prisons? was remanded till this morning for the pro« duction of witnesses. .
