OTAGO.
The " Daily Times " of the 18th instant reports :— The demand for merchandise in the markets to-day has been limited, and we cannot refer to much business done. It is anticipated that during the next few days both country trade and coastwise demand will mend, but in the meantime second houses are limiting their purchases. We hear of some small parcels ot sugars moving at for whites 405., and for grey crystals, 355. Teas have also been placed at very full values, actual prices not transpiring. Breadatuffs have an inclination to greater firm-1 ness; to make considerable sales last week, slightly lower rates would doubtless have been accepted, but millers and other liolders now show morel stiffness. .—Kent hops hnve been placed at Is 9d. 'Malt continues to mote at lis ; Whybrow's half-pint salad oil has been placed at 8s ; Morton's salmon, 16s 3d ; pickles, lis 6d ; fine salt, £6 10s ; case sherry, I 38s 6d ; and Akaroa cheese, 7£d. By auction nothing has been going forward.
