NATIVE NEWS.
The " Wanganui Chronicle" of the ISth says:— Intelligence from the Patea district is now-anxiously expected. -*- considerable force has been concentrated there, and something is naturally expected of it. The men are but raw and undisciplined as vet. and we advocate no hasty or ill-arranged campaign, but as "time slips on the public will expect some definite line of action to be initiated and persevered in. -By the p.s. Sturt, which came into Wanganui from Patea on Saturday, we learned that an onward movement had been made by Colonel M'Domiell, but that so far,'it was without the least result. Two pas beyond Waihi were taken, but capture was easy, as they were tenantless. The men made a long march, and made it under considerable difficulty, but it ended in nothing the trail of the savages being undiscovered. It may be so again and a<*ain, but the search must be continued. Colonel Haultain has gone on from Patea along the coast to visit the several- outposts. We hope his presence may be useful in getting up some kind of esprit de corps among the hitherto rather disorganised levies who have gone to the scene of warfare.
