The " Chronicle " says :—" Now that; the Manawatu imbroglio is put to sleep for a time, the restless Ngatiapas are evidently wishful for some excitement in another quarter, and to the number of about 300, it is said, have offered their services, by their chief Hunia, to the Government, for the purpose of capturing the murderers of Turo Turo Mokai. The •Kupapas also (perhaps), from more patriotic motives, are willing to proceed to the front, provided they are supplied with ammunition — being willing, according to our information, to fight without pay, using the arms they are already possessed of. It is likely this offer will be accepted, and if so, a start will be made in a few days, oi course after the Usual formalities incident to the beginning of a savage warlike expedition. ' They number upwards of 500 warriors. Colonel Haultain, Defence Minister, held a korero with them yesterday, the result of which has been that Captain Kemp ! proceeded to Wellington by the s.s. Wanganui'to arrange matters with the Government.
