GKAIX EFPOBT. Press Office, Friday, May 15. There has been few samph-s of wheat offering during the past week, us the farmers are waiting until the millers and merchants will submit to give 7s. We have heard of several parcels having changed hands at 6s 9d during the week, but as most of tbe needy fanners have sold, that remaining unsold is mostly held by well-to-do fanners, who are determined to hold for their price. Barley remains at last quotations, 3s 9d to 4s 6d. Oats Is 9d to 2s ; not much inquiry. Peas, there is no sale for them. The Customs duties collected at Christchurch on May 14 amounted to £241 17s 6<l, consisting of —Wine £5 4* 10d ; spirits £98 5s Id; beer £9 10s; sugar £100 5s lid; corneacks £24 14s; fancy goods 17s 8d ; pianos £3 ; light duos, Is 6d. At Lyttelton they amounted to £127 2s Bd, consisting of—Spirits £53 18s lid ; tobacco £28 ; tea £4 Is ; sugar £9 11s 4d ; goods per measurement £13 8s lid ; goods, per weight £2 9s ; ad valorem 18s ; light dues £4 16a 2d ; pilotage £9 19s 4d. The amount collected at Christchurch yesterday was £390 Is 9d consisting of—Apothecaries' wares £1 14s ; whisky £77 18s 10d ; rum £40 183 5d ; gin £41 14s Id ; brandy £47 15s 3d ; wine £i 2 13s 2d ; clothing £2 ; sugar £144 12s 6d; hops 13s 6d; other sources 2s.
