LATEST TELEGRAMS.
[By Inte»"provincial Telegraph.] WellilNGton, November 23. On the 14th the " Southern Cross " received the following telegram from Auckland, dated Cambridge, Waikato: —" Matutaera and his principal advisers have resolved to come in. The country is at once to be opened." Nobody understood it, but on the 16th the " Cross " received an explanation. It appears that some weeks ago the Governor sent letters to the Waikato Magistrate, Seraneke, for delivery to Matutaera and others. i iviiing them to make peace and visit Prince Alfred. When tlie letters were delivered a council was called, and a verbal reply sent that numerous pressing matters relative to land sales, leases, gold prospecting, &c, were occupying their attention, but that they would consider tlie Governor's letter shortly. The telegram contains the result of their consideration, and excites great hopes.
Westgarth'a Circular, London, October 1, states that provincial debentures command continued and increased attention in view of the immediately-expected consolidation aud guarantee. £100,000 Canterbury Sixes had just been sold ou much higher terms than previously obtainable. All the Otago Sixes had been taken up, holders asking 95 and upwards. The New Zealand Bank advertises £200,000 Auckland Sixes for tender on the Bth ; price reserved. November 24. Mr Crawford has resigned his seat in the Legislative Council. Numerous addresses have been presented to the Governor, but the proceedings were flat.
