LIVE STOCK, STATION, AND WOOL REPORT.
Messrs Wright, Bobertson and Co., of Dunedin and Timaru, under date the 19th instant, report as follows :— We have very little change to report in the market for 6tock during the past month. Store cattle and store wethers are in demand. Next month we anticipate a brisk demand for all classes of sheep for delivery after shearing; and from what we can at present ascertain, if the money market is not too tight, we do not anticipate prices will be much lower during the ensuing season, with perhaps the cxi ception of breeding ewes, which we think will rule considerably lower than they did last I season.
Fat Cattle—The market has been very barely supplied, anil prices continue firm, with every proba* iiiry of a rise. We quote prime beef 50s per lOOlbs.; middling do, 45s to 4-7 »6d. Fat Calves are in good demand, and soil readily at from £3 to £4. each. Store Cattle —The demand continues for good mixed cattle. We have sold ItsO head in Canterbury, mixed, from nine months and upwards, at £7 10s per head ; also seventyfive head at £8 15s. We quote steers, two years and upwards, £10 to £11 ; good mixed mobs from £S to £9. Fat Sheep—lhe market is completely bare of good quality mutton, and any now coming forward would meet with ready sale at extreme rates. We have sold, for delivery in to«n, 1500 at 19s each; 10Q& on station, good weights, at 20a ; and 1000 on the run at 3£d per lb.—the latter lot about 180 miles from market. We quote first quality sheep at from 4|d to 5d per lb. Store Sheep—Very few transactions have taken place. We have sold 3000 store wethers, in wool, at 14s; also 400, two and four-tooth, at 12s 3d. We quote four to six tooth wethers, in the wool, 14b to 15s, according to locality. After shearing we can sell at 9* on the run. Breeding ewe* nre at present witlv. out quotation in thf? absence of transactions. Horse*—ln consequt l n , e of the numerous arrivals lately the demand lihs decreased, and prices are lower. Our sales comprise, ex *'meo, twenty head, Mr (Sidney's, at from £24 to £64 each. Mr Traeey'a eight saddlehacks averaged £19; Messrs T. and G Booklet's ten head at from £30 to £52 ; Mr Wallace's eleven head at from £23 to £51; Mr Strachan's sriven mares at. £60; Air 1). Neshitt's twelve head averaged £60; Mr John Stevens's twenty-two head at from £30 to £74 ; Mr M'LeislVs ten head, chiefly light, averaged £23 tah; Mr H. Wilson's eight head, been at contract work, sold at from £26 to £65 each ; Mr Sparrow's, ex Taranaki, from Auckland, sold at from £22 to £45 10s each ; and Mr Brown's, ex Tararua, from Wellington, medium draught stock, at from £23 to £34. The Clydesdale entire Sir Colin was purchased by Mr James Smith, of Tokomairiro, for £222 10s; and Young Robert Burns, a Clydesdale entire, was sold for £100 to Messrs Douglas, Alderson and Co Country Sales —At Tokomairiro, on the 2ud instant, we sold eighty bead mixed cattle at £8 10s each ; milch cows at from £L Ito £16; yearlings at £6 10s; twenty head of colis and fillies, from Mr Jtmes Smith's station, at from £11 to £35. At Waikouaiti. on the 9th instant, we sold, on account of Mr Fleming," twenty-four head dairy cows at an average of £l 3 10s, ten two-year-old heifers at £11, and twenty two year-old steers at £10 ss. Also, at Mr G. Shand.jun's farm, East Taieri, fifteen milch cows at from £12 to £18, two-year-old steers at £10 15s, yearlings at £6 l2s 6d, draught mures at from £50 to £64, and two-year old cart colt f«r £34. | Imported Stock —On the Ist instant we held a sale of pure-bred short-horned cattle at the Commercial yards, and disposed of Mr M'Leish's consignment ex Oineo. Twentytwo cows and heifers realized from £25 to £58 10s eaclij; they were a very superior lot, and landed in excellent condition. Eight yearling bulls brought from £15 to £38. We also placed privately twenty head pure shorthorned cows, imported p-r Omeo by Mr Birkett, at £20 each ; they landed in very poor condition. Messrs Douglas, Alderson and Co. were the principal purchasers Station Property —We hear of no sales of station property, and do not expect any transfers until after shearing, when we anticipate a good many runs will change hands There are many eager buyers from Australia, who are prepared to give good prices for eligible properties. Wool Report —In the ahsence of the August mail, not yet to hand, we have no news of this market to report.
