WESTLAND.
The " Wett Coast Times," of the 10th, reports ac follows :— We have not had for some months past to report so little activity in the import market aa has been epparent during the past week, adverse -winds and weather having kept several overdue cargoes from importers' bands, and, with the exception of a shipment of flour, additions to stocks have been all but nil. The market for several major items is working Tery bare. Had the material been to hand, an active business would have been done. The effect has been a further hardening of the market for most staples. In the absence of transactions, our last quotations may be referred to as well maintained. The cargo of flour and bran, ex Ocean Wave, from Adelaide, was submitted to the hammer, and fairly tested the market value of these two lines, a portion of the flour realising £16 10*, the bulk passing into the hands of one firm at £16 Yβ 6d per ton, the bran being taken in one lot at 2s per bushel. Referring to Adelaide quotations, the prices realised for this direct shipment must have proved satisfactory to importers. Spirits are in good demand —firstclass brandy, in bulk, enquired for and found scarce. Aβ there is every probability of considerable addition being made to etock during the present week, market values will be closer defined, and a considerable impetus given to business.
