[Bj West Coaat Telegraph.] Hokitika, May 16, 4.52 p.m. The session of the Supreme Court commenced yesterday. Four cases have been disposed of* and one remains for re-hearing, as the jury were unable to agree.
Sentence of death has been recorded against Vincent for stabbing Eliza Colleen, which will bo commuted to penal servitude for life. The weather is stormy, and the state of the bur indifferent. Tho Tasmanian Maid has grounded, and is much damaged, having sprung a leak. The Kennedy also got aground, but got off all right. The Woodstock rush is extending its limits, and likely to prove good winter diggings. [By lute-provincial Telegraph.] Di r N"Einx, May 16, -A. IS p.m. The Hon. J. C. liichmond, although here, has not yet acted officially. The " Star " last night published a copy of the Provincial Warden's Court Jurisdiction Extension Ordinance, with a leader commenting on its provisions. At the sitting of the Council tho same evening the Provincial Solicitor called attention to the fact that the Bill had never been published by the Government. The Speaker to-day wrote to tho publisher, asking from whom he had obtained it. The publisher replied, " From the proprietor of the paper."
