OTAGO.
The following commercial intelligence is from the " Daily Times," of the 25th inst.:— Holiday making and electioneering matters have interfered with the business of the week, which however would not have been, irrespective of these causes, very brisk. Excepting one or two middling sized transactions there has been an absence of anything of interest. Nothing is doing in flour, except in trifling parcels for current wants. Very little of imported is in request, other than for town trade. The expected sale of the Oberlin'a ■ cargo on the 26th has suspended private operations in sugar, and though the market retains its position, nothing of note lias taken place. In teas there has been a little more i doing ; the same may be said of galvanised iron, and one or two minor articles. Malt i liquors, spirits, and wines, are without animation. Intelligence from Melbourne' markets has lied the efleet of stiffening prices, but no extra demand has been felt. Generally, with regard to staples (cindles only excepted), holders are 'ih'nTcrT'bnt'"values have not mnteriaUy altered. For candles Is 4d- is asked, but if uny sales have been made at the price they ceiu only as yet be of email proportions. The Countess Russell, to hand during the ■ week, brings an unusually valuable cargo of saleable goods, the usually tedious passage of the London ships having been niado. Kothing in the auction sales of the week furnishes any occasion for notice.
