Wainui, Captain Driver, arrived in '" harbor yesterday morning at seven am. from Dunedin, via intermediate ports Captain Driver reports leaving Dunedin on Friday last at eleven p.m.. arriving at Oamaru at sir a.m. . on the following morning; left Oamaru at four p.m. on same day, arriving at Timarii at midnight. Experienced very heavy gales from S. while lying in Timaru on Sunday last, arrived at- Afcaroa at ten a.m. on Tuesday, and sailed for Lyttelton at four p.m. on the same ' afternoon, arriving as above -Th* Wainui was detained twenty-four hours at Port Chalmers owino to her being unable to obtain her clearance She sailed -for Dunedin, via intermediate ports, at four p.m. yesterday afternoon. The PN.Z. nnd A.R.M. Company's bs. Lord Ashley arrived from Sydney, West Coast, and Dunedin yesterday afternoon. She passed through Sydney Hoads at half-past one p.m., on the 13th, arrived off Hokitika at half-past six am. on the 18th ; proceeded for Greymouth at noon, and left same day at half-past two p.m. for Nelson, with a S.W breeze, and anchored outside the Boulder Bank at eleven a.m. next day ; entered Nelson harbour at six p.m., sailed again at eloveu. a.m. on the 21st for Gtreyinouth. Experienced a strong S.W. breeze, with a high sea, , and arrived at half-past eleven on the 22nd ; landed passengers only, the sea being too rough for transhipping cargo ; steamed for Hokitika, at half-past one p.m. ; and anchored off the bar at half-past three, too late for tide. The Aahley being bound by contract to leave Port Chalmers with the Northern mails on the 25th, (two days earlier this month) would not wait until the following day. The steamer tTasmanian Maid, having fortunately just arrived, by hind permission of her commander, the passengers and mails were put on board, and the Aehley left at six p.m., making the northern passage. She was abreatt of Cape Campbell at half-past nine p.m. on the 23rd, only twenty-seven and a half hours out, a heavy S.E. gale was encouutered for several hours off the KaiJroras. Bank's Peninsula was passed at eleven p.m. on the 24th, and Otago Heads was entered at two p.m. on 25th ; left Dunedin on the 26th at half-past four p m., had strong southerly winds, and arrived as above. T!io Lord Ashley .sailed - for Wellington at fifty-five minutes past four p m. yesterday. The schooner Dancing Wave, Captain Brown arrived in harbor yesterday from Greymouth. Captain Brown reports leaving. ~ Grey river.at three pni. on Ihe 22nd instant; r experienced very heary N.W. gales with , heavy sea on this mast, being hove to on ' Tuesday evening for four hour*. The Dane- - v ing Wave brings a cargo of Groy Hiver coal The following whaling vessels ore reported V as having arrived at the Chatham Islands. *j On February 15, the barque Eliza, Captain Withere'll. of and from New Bedford, with f 550 barrels sperm and 350 whnle oil. On February 16, the Ohio, ship, Captain Laurence, six months out, bound for the Sandwich Islands, and having on board sixty barrels 2 sperm and forty barrels whale oil. Both vessels report all well.
