Thh Volunteers* —The , monthly inspection of the Kngineers and the Grst battalion Canterbury Rifle Volunteers will take place on Monday evening at theorill-shed, at seven: p.m. The Bazaar. —The bazaar in aid, of the building fund of St. Paul's Church, now being held in the Town Hall, has proved one of the most successful ever held in Christchurch. The Town Hall last evening was crowded to excess, and the fair stall-keepers did a most excellent business. The -wares offered for sale or to be raffled were of a much better class than those usually found on similar occasions, and one felt that, although victimised, he still had a something for his money. The proceeds on Thursday amounted to very nearly to £200, and yesterday the takings must have exceeded that sum. The goods remaining unsold will be disposed of by auction to-day at two p.m., by Mr Ollivier, in the Town Hall. Tbeatre Royal.—Knowles's play of " The ■ Hunchback ■' was played last eveoing at the theatre to a very full house, the occasion being the benefit of Mr Tom Fawcett. Mr Stuart O'Brien appeared as Master Walter, ■Miss Juno as Julia, Mrs Charles Poole as -Helen, and -Mr -Faweett -ae-Sir-'l'lwraas Glif- ! ford. With such a cast it is needless to say that the piece was plajed most successfully. Mr Fawcett has reason to be preud of his benefit last evening ; we have seldom seen in the theatre a much better house, and rarely a pky much better produced, and ore sorry that a want of space precludes our giving a lengthened notice. To-night, the "King's Rival "and a farce will be played.
