TIMARU.
The "Herald," of the stb, reports .— Mr Petrie reports that at his auction sale of cattle and horses at Temuka, on Wednesday, the 29th ult., there was a large attendance, and the bidding was spirited for the cattle, but the horses went off .but Blowly. Cows fetched from £13 to £17 ; young steers, from £5 to £9 ; horses, light hacks, from £10 to £16 ; pigs, small fat porkers, £2 each. A team of four working bullocks, with dray, was sold for £105. Mr Petrie also reports, at his sale yesterday, in Timaru, of Mr Tucker's effects, a, good attendance, and as regards the household effects and furniture, an eager competition, as high prices were realised. Horses, light harness, from £21 to £30 ; saddle hacks, £12 to £25. Dog-cart and harness, £40; saddles and bridles at fair prices. In our advertising columns we notice that Messrs H. J. LeCren and Co. have disposed of their business to the well-known firm of Miles and Co., Christchurch. This announcement of Messrs LeCren and Co.'c retirement from business will be received with regret by all who have had occasion to transact business with them, and more especially co by the old residents in the town and neighborhood, as ever since Timaru was first eetflefi-—now over, _uney ears—-Messrs, LeCren and Co. have been in business here ; and during the last seven years,Jn which Mr LeCren himself has been a resident, he has won both respect and esteem from all classes, not only by his businesslike habits, but also by Ids general courtesy and kindness.
