. Tata Bo'kbat.—The following is the report o f the Immigration Commissioners [on the ship" Bombay :—The Commissioners report Shat they found all the' compartments Allotted to the immigrants in a very satisfactory condition* especially that of the single females; 61l of whom -presented an' extremely cleanly and respectable appearance, and were reported by the master and surgeon as having conducted themselves in a satisfactory.manner
throughout the voyage.' The immigrants appeared cheerful and grateful for the care and attention shown them by the master and Burgeon. The Commissioners consider that great want of judgment was shown in the .(Selection of the matron* The-important duties of that office had to be performed by a" .sub-matron selected, from the immigrants, owing to the total unfitness and incapacity of the penon appointed in London.. The Commissioners'attention was drawn to the very imperfect protection afforded by the fore and main hatches; the latter was of such slight construction as to be useless to keep, out the water shipped over the side. On more than one occasion, the 'tween decks had been flooded
in consequence. The position of the hospital '; was: bad ! ; and the Commissioners strongly, object to the plan of placing the only hospital available for females in the married peoples compartment. The Commissioners recommend,,that full gratuities be paid—the submatron being substituted for the matron. — Wm. Donald, Richd."-R. Armstrong, John . Rouse, Pred. D.Gibson. . i I
