OTAGO. The M Times," of the 27th inst., reports :— The business of the past week has in every department showed more or less of quietness, though considering the season and the dulness which usually prevails just before and after the departure of tbe Home mails, it has not been worse than might have been expected. The exports have been rather heavier than usual, though with no item of magnitude, and the orders still to go forward, will ensure a little business for the next few days. The market for breadstuffs is languid, and no large sales of imported have taken place; tlie •value/ of Chilian and Californian, is £15. to £16 lOa-, and for Adelaide, £19 to £19 10*. The cargo of the Rachel is still in importers' hands, understood to be unbroken. Provincial flour is how in good supply, particularly in the country districts. The market for malt liquors, both in hulk and bottle, is withour animation, and chiefly among second houses, importers doing nothing of any moment. The aspect of the market for provisions is still unsteady, though holders are making no concession in value: it has not transpired that a single parcel of any magnitude has been quitted. In sugars there iB nothing doing, purchasers waiting for Tuesday's' auotion sale. Teas have been in fair ' demand, and a gradual lessening of stock is perceptible : rates ate, however, without improvement.-' Spirits and wines are in fair 7supply, particularly good brands; the sales making _r© numerous but not heavy. Trans- •' actions in building materials continue good, end prices fully maintained.
