RIVER SHIPPING.
Heathcote, July 5. aßßirsn. Margaret, cutter; Elizabeth, ketch ; Lucy James, ketch; Connaught Ranger, ketch; Mullogh, s.s.; Prince Conßort, schooner; Sea Bird, schooner. The schooner Spray, James Ruxton, master, left Hokitika on Bunday, June 24. Winds light for a N.N.W.: on 26th, strong gales from N. to N.N.E.; ran south intending to go through Foveaux Straits. Northerly gale carried us to southward of Milford Haven. Winds then hauled in to the S.W., blowing tales until arrival off Steven Island. From teven Island to Queen Charlotte Sound, experienced heavy NW. gale. Sighted a large ship under high-reefed topsails; saw some under bare poles in height of gale. Ex?erienced westerly gales to the Kaikoura ehinsula; lights winds until arrival in Lyttelton at eleven a.m. on July 3.
