SYDNEY. By the Otago, from Sydney via Neleon, our advices are to the 16th inst. The following report is from the "Empire," of Saturday the 14th :— In general business there has been a fair amount done, and there hare been a few alterations in prices, which the following review of the market will exhibit. Liquids —Brandy is dull of sale. Quotations for Martell's continue at 7s Id for hogsheads, and 7s 3d for quarter-casks. Rum is also dull at former quotations, say 3s 2£d to 3s 3d per gallon for best brands. Geneva, 10s 6dto lls per case, the higher quotation being for large contents, say 3 12-32 gallon. Draught ale has been sold largely to arrive at the following quotations :—Marrian's, £7 12s 6d; Bass's and Allsop's, £7 10s; Dawson's Yorkshire ale, £6 15s to £7 per hogshead, j Porter continues scaree —Whitbread's stout has been sold to arrire at £7 10s to £7 12s 6d, and Dawson's for £7 10s per hogshead. Bottled ale commands 9s to 10s 3d, according to quality and brand; Blood's stout, lls; and Dawson's, in equal quantities of ale and porter, 9s 9d per dozen. In wines we hare no sales of any importance to report. Cereals—On Wednesday last we had five arrivals from California, bringing altogether 33,420 sacks of wheat, 17,417 sacks, 2506 half-sacks, and 7540 quarter-sacks of flour. These arrivals, together with the knowledge that many more may be daily expected, hare had a rery depressing effect, and market prices are rery difficult to quote. The following cargoes hare been sold by auction this week.—On Monday Mr. W. Dean sold the cargo, per Gauntlet, from San Francisco. The flour comprising 5928 quarters and 1868 halfsacks, realised £15 7s to £15 12e per ton ; 8452 sacks of wheat, 6s 4d per bushel. On Tuesday Messrs. L. F. Threlkeld and Co. sold the cargo per A. W. Willis, from Chili, 1000 tons of wheat realised 5s 4d to 5s 6d for parcels of from 2000 to 5000 bushels, and the balance was taken at 5s 2d per bushel. About 200 out of 400 tons of flour found purchasers at £14 per ton. On Wednesday Mr. W. Dean sold the cargo of Chilian cereals, ex General Caulfield : — Wheat, comprising 6200 bags, a rery fine sample, brought 5s 9d per bushel; 5300 bags of flour, £3 17 6d per ton; 402 bags oats, 4s B}d ; 381 bags of barley, 4s lOfrd ; and 857 bags of bran, a very inferior sample, 13Jd per bushel. To-day Mr. W. Dean sold the entire cargo of Chilian flour, ex Garibaldi. The flour was old and very stale, and all more or less damaged by sea water. About 160 tons, much damaged, realised £5 10s per ton, and the balance, more or less damaged, amounting to about 340 tons, £8 10s per ton. The whole nas bought by three Sydney millers. For Adelaide flour there is no demand beyond small parcels for the hand to mouth requirements of the trade, for which £19 per ton is the general quotation. Sugars—This market is very buoyant, and considerable transactions by auction have taken place, at very full prices. On Tuesday, Mr. W. Dean offered the cargo of the Notre Dam De Bon Porte, from Bourbon, and sold about 350 tons at prices ranging from £27 12s 6d for dark ration, to £43 per ton for white crystals.
