We understand that the substance of the proposal is, that the boats should call at Tahiti going; and coining:, and for this the Government were prepared to pay the sum of £4000 annually Mr. Wilkens, having communicated with Caplain Sail, was referred ~to the Postal Committee, then sitting, and we believe that he mis then requested to submit the proposal in writiiig to the Government of this colony- - From what we can learn with refereuce to the subject, the steamers calling at Tahiti would confer many conveniences upon travellers, not the lea«t of which would be, that by that means a half-way resting place would be obtained, and travellers would be ennbled to get on shore for the purpose of recreation. —" Wellington Advertiser/* ;
