The Rush. —Several hundred persons must have 1 left our city on Saturday for the West Coast. At an 1 early hour in the morning five coaches started full of ; intending diggers, and many drays crossed the Victoria bridge en route during the day loaded with ( swags. We are glad to find the custom of partially loading drays with stores and then filling up with swags becoming prevalent, as by . this means a plentiful supply of provisions will always he en- • sured on tiie road. Grog is being sent forward picnic tifully, and with it the requisite amount of timber i and canvas for the erection of shanties. The i licensing difficulty will soon solve itself; if licenses J cannot be granted liquor will be sold without them, and we shall soon find the shanty 'proverbial to all 1 other digging routes, squatted at every likely place for 1 carrying ou that trade, instead of houses carried on by men amenable to the law for misconducting them. < Kowai Coal Compabt.—An extraordinary general meeting of this company will be held on Tuesday next, at the offices of Messrs J. Ollivier and Son, for the purpose .of considering the advisability of winding up the company. Pbincess' Thbathk.—A tolerably large house was collected on Saturdayevening."to see Mr Dilloh in Richard the Third, of which we can only say that it . was a most vigorous and able performance, and was received with loud applause. To-night the bill is a very extensive one; it comprises some scenes from 1 Henry the Eighth, a two-act comedy entitled the • Artist of Florence, and the popular burlesque of Faust. I We most remind our readers that Mr and Mrs Dillon and Mr Fawcett leave for Dunedin to-morrow, and that this evening will therefore be their last appearance in Christchurch. We hope that the attendance at the theatre to-night will be such as to show that the public of Christchurch have rightly appreciated the treat which the performance of these talented artists has afforded them during the past fortnight.
