The ship Lindsay, Captain Jackson, from Newcastle, with 150 head of fat cattle, am red in port at 4.15 yesterday afternoon, 24 days out, 22 cattle dead. She it bound for Port Chalmers, and has been driven up from Stewart's Island by the late gales, and put in to purchase hay, kc, ha ring run out of fodder for the cattle, which are of first-rate quality. She left Newcastle oo Sunday, Dece__b_r U, aad has experienced fight winds during the greater part of the passage. Mr. Hargreares sold hy auction, at Diamond Harfcar, the wreck of the schooner Canterbury, with masts, span, sails, anchors, chains, &l, for the sum of £220. The party was conveyed across the harbor by Stancutter, Tho Surprise. The PJSLZ. and AJR___ Co.'s ul, Fho.be, E. Wheeler, left the Manukan at four pan- on the 30th nit, hating been detuned two days by the General Government; left Taranaki on the 31st: Nelson on the 2nd instant; Pictot.an the 3rd, and Wellington at 415 p.ni. on the _0_ Experienced heavy galea fromS____. to SAW. so the latter passage, aiming hero at 5.45 pan. yesterday.

Jhe p.sJGeelong arrived in Port at an early hour, erdaf i_a-X__tg from Dunedin and intermedi ports. Reports having met with very severe weather at Timaru, and wa3 unable to take in wool in conseqnence. Captain Turnhull brings files of Dunedin and Melbourne papers, brought down by the Gothenburg, having later news from America. During the height of the S.W. gale on Wednesday morning, at 11 o'clock, the barque Eucalyptus, from Hobart Town, bound to Timaru, narrowly escaped shipwreck at Akaroa heads. Fortunately she managed to get off the shore, baring lost three anchors, and tookshelter in Akaroa harbor without sustaining any furtier damage. The wtll-known Clyde and Otago trader Robt. Henderson arrived in the forenoon, being still in command of 1 Capt .in Logan, who thus completes his fifth passage to tliis province and Southland. She brings 62 passengers, without any deaths or sickness during the passage, and the vessel, according to the Immigiition Officer's report, is in her usual cleanly and satifactory condition. The Robert Henderson sailed from Greenock on September 20, put in at Lamlasi on September 21, and did not leave there until tie 24th, clearing the land on September 23. The pafsage from Lamlash has thus been one of 97 days, t&ich, though over the recent average, is the longestjwhich Captain Logan has made to this port. With Ight westerly winds to the Cape de Verde she crossed the line when 24 days out. On October 22, in 18° 19' N., and 22° 49' W. she spoke fie ship Light Brigade, bound for Auckland, and alout an equal time out from port. No other vessels;bound for the colonies were spoken during the passagp. From the Line as far as the Snares a good run wi made, the only noteworthy circumstance being th| sighting of three large icebergs ou and after Novei|ber3o, in about 30° S. and s_° E., and Kergueleifs Island, on December 23. The Snares were | passecfon Saturday the 24th instant, since which time : she h|s been beating up the const with light N.E windsj Throughout the passage was a remarkably fine ofe, it being scarcely necessary to reef topsails at any tine. A ship, understood to be the Abouliir, wa3 sighted by th| Robert Henderson, on Saturday last, in the neighborhood of the Snares. In consequence of the Robeit Henderson putting into Lamlash, the Aboukir had astart of about eight days from the Clyde, but wouli not make much head-way, after starting heavy westerly weather having prevailed. The Robert Hen&rson would have the advantage of her in working i» this coast, and she may now be hourly looked for. fShe is now under command of Captain Fen ton, Captjin Wilkie having been appointed to a ship on the locks at Glasgow for a London firm. Of the othelvessels out, the Ramsay is looked for with most inteifst, being understood to have a large collection of gi>ds on board for the New Zealand Exhibition.— ITfidl T|b Government schooner Caroline returned in the liorning from Oamaru, where she had been for the purpose of adjusting the moorings. The ship Starhf Tasmania, it appears, had been temporarily secufed by the buoy chain attached to the moorings, and tot to the moorings proper, and it was that portionlraly which gave way, having necessarily become conaderably chafed and worn by contact with the bottom, and the constant motion of the buoy. The reaonoorings remain intact, and are sufficiently strong and heavy to hold a vessel of considerably larger dim nsions and tonnage than the Star of Tasmania Th< ' consist of two anchors, each of more than two ton weight, and of two strong chains of about a hui Ired fathoms in length. In the meantime, the Sta of Tasmania continues to ride easily and safely atferown anchors.— lbid. lie steamship Gothenburg, Captain Mackie, arrival in Port Chalmers at 7.30 p.m. yesterday. Left Hason's Bay at 4 p.m. on Saturday the 24th ult., anJmade the Bluff on the 30th, and left again at 4.3 on the 31st—passed a barque making for this <p(S. Captain Mackie reports having met with < stvere weather, a continuation of easterly Jjjes and heavy aeas; was hove to for eight hours <k the Solanders, on the 27th; the gale afterwards j Moderating, was enabled to steam against it, but the feather generally had been bad and tempestuous foin starting. She brings a full cargo and 26 paaengers. The Albion was to leave Melbourne on the 18th. The Derwent arrived before the Hero.— Otago mtil, January 2. i The only arrivals at the port during the last two ■lays have been the Gothenburg from Melbourne, bnd the Titania, from Inrercargill, with 18 passengers. Captain Harper reports having sighted several vessels evidently hound to this port by the course they were steering, and from the appearance of two of them, both barques, they are supposed to have cattle on board; and we anticipate, from the description given, that the Bengal is one. Up to the latest hour no vessel has been sighted off the Heads ; indeed, the weather has been so thick and foggy, that it would have been dangerous for any vessel to approach too close in.— lbid.
