OTAGO. TTe extract the following from the monthly sum* mary of the* Daily Tunes* of the uth. BREADeTVFFR. Adelaide Flonr—The market lias ruled steady till within the last few days, when merchants have shown come indisposition to prew sale*, in consequence of reported large pnrchaees in Adelaide. «ald to be for the Now Zealand market : this ha* led to a decline in price*, and wo may now quote Hart's and Marai-vy's at £\i r.e to Sis los ; other brand*, £16 to £n fstocks moderate. Ta«manian.—£ls to £15 108. Califotnian.— £\6. HORBE TEED. T J^i M, !2l2* t *"~ , ? J ROod d «"»*»d. and prices have gradually edged upward*, a fair sample ia now worth cc. Stock* knall, and prices likely to Improve aavancee.

Scotch—ln very full supply, principally inferior samples, which are almost unsaleable; good samples have been sold in small lots at 5s 6d. Scarcity of colonial likclv to improve this class of oats. Californian.—A shipment of eooo bushels per Harburg brought 68 3d for medium to Tβ Cd for fine samples. These Quotations may still be rejrard«-d as current. Maize. -Good samples bring , readily Cβ. Bran.—lα moderate supply, and worth 2s to 2s 2d. BEER—BCLK ASD BOTTLE. Ale, Bulk.—This article, so long depressed, has begun lately to be a little more enquired lor, still prices are low. We quote £s 10s for Bass' Xo, 3, Xα 4. if in the market, would bring£9 10s readily, being- a favorite for summer consumption. London and Colonial Co.'c. £R to £s ss; Ind. Coop. A Co.'s. £S. The large increase in our local brew, induced by the climate and water bein" both so favorable for the manufacture, ia likely in a short time to drive out of the market all English ales, with the exemption of the best bratds. Consignors at home would do well to notice this. Ale,' Bottle— .Stock small, and favorite brands, if in good condition, are much enquired for. Wcq>:otei Tennant's pale ale. lls; Jefleries and Victoria Stores, 10s 6d to Hβ. Stout. Bulk.—Difficult of sale. Taylor, Walker and Co.'s brand brings in small lots £6 10s. Stout, Bottle—Has been in fair demand. Byass and Victoria stores, 10s 6d to lie. stock large. Dunphy, Blood, and White's brands have been much sought after lately, and being in limited supply have brought 12s 6d. PROVISIONS. Bacon and Hams.—During the early part of October the market was much depressed, and sales were made of Sinclair's brand on the spot and to arrive at 11 j<l. Within the last two or three weeks a speculative movement has set in, and this brand is now with difficulty bou<rht at is 3d, Coey's and Campbell's is 2d. These prices are likely to be ftilly maintained, a* the demand is certain to be considerable during the snnyner month;!. Stork large, especially of second brands of Irish and English. Butter.—D. E. Cork is in very large supply and sell* ■lowly at iod for prime new samples. The'continued panic in the Melbourne market operates prejudiciallr on this article here. Cheese.— Dun lop and English in limited supply, and worth Iβ lid to is 2d. if in good condition. OILMAN'S STORES. The demand hai been fair, and supply good hitherto, but the present absurd Customs' tariff presses most severely on this class of merchandise, and in consequence merchants arc wisely discontinuing , the importation. We quote Batty's pint pickles, 12s 6d ; capers, balf-pints, 13s 6d ; curvy powder, £:lbs, Kβ; sauces assorted, lie. 6d; bottkd fruits, 22s fid; jams, 1-lb tins. 14*; salad oil, half-pints, us; pints, its ; castor oil, haltlpints, 9s ; pints, 15s 6d; sardines, quarts, 8s; halves, I2e. BUILDING MATERIALS. The market, for all descriptions of building materials has been rather quiet during the month, caused chiefly by the bad weather; with fine weather we are certain to see a considerable impetus given to building both in town and country. Scotch Flooring has been in fair demand; sales have taken place on the spot at 3ie for i£ inch, and to arrive at 29s to 30s for U inch ; 27m for 7-a ; 24s ed for }; and 2is for A inch. The chief import has been per Nelson, from Glasgrow, at present supplies now afloat are known to be moderate, the tendency in price is likely to be upwards. Deals have not been in such active demand, still holders continue firm, the chief business has been the ''argo per Fata Morgana, from Gothenbursr. which sold at a price all round, equal to «d lor 9 x 3, thus establishing a slight decline on 11 x 3. American Lumber.—We quote £12 10s per 1000 feet for T and G floorinjr. and £s ice to £io per iooo feet for rough stuff. The Adventurer from Xew York, with a email shipment, is the only direct import. Tastnanlan Hardwood, mc per 100 feet. The supply of this cla?a of limber during the past month has been large, and the tendency is to decline in price. Galvanised Iron.— Business during the early part of month was good, and considerable parcels enansred hands at high prices, latterly, however, the demand has not been quite so active, and with an increase of stocks prices tend down. We now quote Morewood, 24 {mage £37 per ton; nnd 20 giiagc, £39. Scotch, 24 guage, £32 10s ; 26 puage. £'<4 : and 2« puajre, £36 per ton. Slates.—Countess. 20 by 10, £16 per 1000. Portland Cement, 22s fid per barrel. Roman Cement.—Unsaleable. BPTRITS. Brandy. Bnlk.— Notwithstanding the stocks are very heavy, there seems less disposition lately on the part of holders to press sales, especially of first brands. We quote for MarteU's & Hennery's pale. Used; dark. ios 6d; Otard's United Vineyarde and Kennaulte, 9e ed to ins 6d per gallon. Brandy, cases.—Hennessy. 31 c cd; Jf artel, 29s to 30s ; inferior brands almost unsaleable. Whiskey, bulk.—ln consequence of holders showing an anxiety to sell, prices have been very irregular lately. Kirkliston has been sold as low as 3s 3d ; and Cumpbelton, at 4s; these sales, however, may be regarded as exceptional, and we give as current quotations, 3e »d to 4s for Kirkliston; and 4a 6d for Campbclton, with slow sale. Whiskey, cases—Similar remark applies to eases, but we give 10k 6d for Kirklixton ; and As for Saucel as the ruling rates. Stocks of both bulk and ease are very heavy.

Rum.—Good samples of 30 op bring 4». Geneva.—Stocks heavy and in the prospect of a lanre direct shipment daily exoceted per Minister Thorbecke. sales have been made lately wirh difficulty, ard at declining prices, but the reported sale to arrive ot a lanre portion of this shipment for the ontports is likely to steady the markets again. We quote JDKZ, small contents, 13s.
